The first ballet premiere of Croatian National Theater in Zagreb is “Metropolis” by Thea von Harbou

Ballet of the Croatian National Theater in Zagreb announces the first this season’s premiere Metropolis by Thea von Harbou, to be held on 3rd of November. The choreographer, dramatist and director of the play is Jiří Bubeníček.

 

The screenwriter, author of video projection and music arrangement is Otto Bubeniček, costume designer Nadina Cojocar, light designer Deni Šesnić, and ballet masterminds are Mihaela Devald Roksandić, Milka Hribar Bartolović, Ilir Kerni.

 

Ballet Metropolis was inspired by the science fiction novel by Thea von Harbou, who is also the filmmaker of Fritz Lang’s film masterpiece. The ballet act is set in the futuristic urban city of Metropolis and follows Freder, the rich son of the city ruler, and the poor worker Mary. It is a story about the capitalist society, the poor and wealthy, of a working class that works to allow the privileged rich class to live lavishly.

The performance will include: Tomislav Petranović, Kornel Palinko, Natalia Kosovac, Iva Vitić Gameiro, Takuya Sumitomo, Guilherme Gameiro Alves, Gianmarco Beoni, Ovidiu Muscalu, Oleksandr Koriakovsky, Alen Gotal, Siniša Bosnar and other soloists and members of the Croatian National Ballet Ensemble in Zagreb.
